The second law of thermodynamics is a fundamental principle of nature that determines the direction of energy conversion processes in a system. Advance knowledge of the process direction is important for the fields of science and technology. However, the role of the second law of thermodynamics is not limited to the field of science and engineering. The thermodynamic approach is also effective in studying the behavior and functioning of biological systems. The purpose of my work is to determine how it is possible to study living systems by thermodynamic methods, what features characterize these methods and to analyze specifically the role of the second law of thermodynamics in the study of processes in biological systems.
